Ute till auktion/Up for auction is this brand new harmonica-compilation CD, named "HORTON´S BRIEFCASE.... Not Far From Maxwell Street" (CPVCD401), released on the leading Swedish blues-label CeePeeVee Records in 2000. The CD is brand new & sealed!

***The 24 page booklet will contain pictures of the players and at least five very rare pictures taken of Walter when he was over here in Sweden in 1965 ,1968 ,1970 and 1976 . One picture is also taken outside the famous Maxwell Radio Shop in Chicago in 1972. What a treat for a Big Walter Horton fan !!!***

These 18 tunes are some very wellknown and some lesser known tunes which Walter Horton recorded as a soloist or as a sideman during his life. Each harpplayer on the record choosed his very own favorite 3 tunes.

" First I´m find the album really enjoyable. Zetterberg is really good - his tone isn´t perfectly Walter, but his phrasing and note choices are right on. Sjöström has more of Walter´s reedy tone. He and Grahn don´t quite have Walter´s easy swing, but still good. Grahn does a nice job on La Cucaracha. Andersson swings and sings better. I liked his feel on Card Game quite a bit, and also Cotton Patch, that swung in a very Horton way. The piano enhances a lot too. Dafgård´s Fumblin Around was very Horton-esqe. Elldin´s whole set felt really good. " Although I´m sure there is no way to sell much of this,the whole album is such a loving tribute that I´m very glad it was made. I seriously doubt that I could have found a batch of US players who would have done it any better."

" Fans of Big Walter,and fans of ´50s-style Chicago/Memphis blues in general,will enjoy this anthology of Swedish artists paying tribute to their master.Although the names will be umfamilar to most American blues fans,artists including Sven Zetterberg, Jan Sjöström, Thomas Grahn and Sture Elldin (among the six featured) play in a wide range of Horton styles and even manage to sing in his fashion. Some tracks (Louise,Louise and Everybody´s Fishin´) feature only guitar and harp but most are ensemle efforts. Cotton Patch Hot Foot is played as quartet; the knocking of the woodblocks lends it an almost cowboy flavor. Little Boy Blue features the swooping,expansive lines Horton was famous for and Sneakin´and Hidin´ reworks one of the powerful slow blues Horton recorded for Testament.

Lovers of blues harp will find Horton´s Briefcase to be an enthusiastic and well-played ode to one of the blues´ finest harmonica players."
