Description:
England and their metal fans had seen Def Leppard as a traitor to
the Nwobhm genre when they were flirting with the Us audience with
the track ‘Hello America’ already on their first album, but in 1983
the band released ‘Pyromania’ and all Nwobhm labels were trying to
find another hair band with a more light weight metal attitude to
gain in on the trend. Neat records signed the local act Emerson
(named after the two brothers who founded the band Stuart and Bri
Emerson) and their debut and only single ‘Something Special’
features some melodic brand of rock with great vocals by Axis
singer Sam Blewitt. The single wasn’t the big seller as the label
had hoped but it put the band out on a fairly successful and
widespread British tour in early 1984. Emerson recorded a three
track demo after the tour that got some praise in the rock press
but Neat records weren’t interested to release it and the band were
left to fend for themselves. One track from the three track demo
appeared on the ‘The Best Of British’ compilation album released by
Zebra records in 1985. Drummer Charlie McKenzie was a co-founder of
the nwobhm act Black Rose and he joined Samson in 1988 after the
band Emerson had collapsed
