HarvestMoon is another superb lost band from the New Wave of British HeavyMetal days. The band, who were from Wales, certainly had the talentthough sadly not the breaks. The band’s history goes back to themid-1970s when they were known as Stepping Stones. The name changeto Harvest Moon came around the turn of the 1980s and cut aself-financed EP. That went down so well Harvest Moon were invitedto take part in a Battle Of The Bands in Liverpool with such namesas Gary Moore, Rick Wakeman, Graham Bonnet and Bruce Dickinson asjudges. As they say, Harvest Moon aced it and Charisma records camecalling and an album appeared to be imminent – only for Charisma togo bust which signalled the beginning of the end. The music isfirst class indeed. Mixes in various styles with quite a mysticalfeel overall as is evidenced in the lyrics. Plenty of hard stuffgoing on though they bring in the atmospheric mystical,atmospherics which is helped by the keys and synths. There’s alsoplenty of punchy, tasteful riffs going on, excellent muscular solosas things vary from the heavier side to what you might call heavyfolk with some progressive tinges thrown in for good measure. Whoknows – had Charisma not gone under and Harvest Moon’s intendedalbum had seen a release things could have been so much differentfor the band.
