One of the pioneers of Brutal DeathMetals have returned with the second instalment of the trilogynamed The Book Of Suffering and are not taking any prisoners.Formed back in 1992, the Canadians were integral to the creation ofthe extreme version of Death Metal we now enjoy so much of and arestill far more brutally brilliant than most. Its been 3 years sincethe release of Part 1 of this trilogy and this time has allowed thefour-piece to create something delightfully despicable. The 4-trackrelease kicks off with `The Wretched Living´ which welcomeslisteners, old and new to the uniquely high quality, intense andskull smashing band that are Cryptopsy. The punishing drums,chaotically organised fret work, speedy bass and guttural vocal,which unlike many still carries differing tones and emotions, setthe band apart and this is a welcome return or sharp learning curvedepending on your knowledge of the band. The unrelenting punishmentis something very special and we are only one track in. Overallthis is an 18-minute master piece of Brutal Death Metal that easilydisplays why this band have remained at the forefront of the scene.Whilst they have been around for some years and have a significantback catalogue, their relevance and importance is as high as ever.The tightness, quality and extreme levels that this band creates issomething special to experience and at this rate they will continueto be one of the most important brutal bands for many years tocome.
