A memoir that stems
from an autobiography found in recording impresario Walter Legge's files by his
wife, singer Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. She describes her role as "a narrator
of sorts guiding the reader through that uplifting, exciting, infuriating, and
sometimes frustrating world" where Legge battled with recording companies
in order to promote the work of musicians he admired in the days before
corporate profit dictated such decisions. In addition to Legge's own writing,
the book includes contributions by conductor Herbert von Karajan and others.
