Catching the eye of the infamous "Angel of Death", Dr. Josef Mengele, the sisters are sent to a separate barracks called "the Zoo", where the are subject of unspeakable experiments. But they are also aided in ther fight for survival by other prisoners, such as maternal Miri, a Jewish doctor now forced to work alongside Mengele; Bruna, a spirited young thief; Feliks, a rebellious child grieving his own terrible loss; and Peter, an unexpected ally with acess to the camp´s black market. That winter, Pearl vanishes. Stasha is tormented by her absecnce but insists Pearl is still alive. Stasha dreams of reunion, fortified by thoughts of vengeance. Though the sisters are separated, their bond endures, an unassailable tribute to love and family and the hope of living once again - not as children who have been wounded, but as survivors who cannot be broken.
