The LEGO® House Exclusive set "A Minifigure Tribute" (40504) celebrates the iconic LEGO minifigure – an essential part of the LEGO story since 1978. For 45 years, this tiny figure has allowed both children and adults to dive into any adventure built with LEGO bricks.
This limited-edition set was released on March 1, 2023.
Each year, the LEGO House Limited Edition set commemorates a landmark in LEGO history. One such milestone was the introduction of the LEGO minifigure in 1978. This tiny character magically allows you to become part of any LEGO story you choose to build – whether you’re imagining a sea battle, fighting fires in a LEGO city, launching into hyperspace, or hosting a feast in a castle. That magical power turns 45 years old this year.
That’s why the 2023 LEGO House Limited Edition had to pay tribute to the over 10 billion minifigures released since their debut – and it does so through a larger-than-life version of the legendary Captain Redbeard, now with special updated details!

You’ll find minifigures throughout LEGO House – especially in the Character Creator and World Explorer experiences. But which minifigure?
Since the first minifigure was released in 1978, LEGO designers have created an astonishing 8,000+ unique minifigures, featuring every imaginable facial expression, hairstyle, hat, beard, dress, or superhero cape. Since 2010, minifigures have even had their own collectible series.
Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the legendary LEGO designer, was the creative force behind the
minifigure design we all know and love today. He went through at least 50 different prototypes before arriving at the perfect version — a small figure that fits seamlessly into the LEGO System in Play.
The Ship's Captain The original Captain Redbeard minifigure from the 6285 Black Seas Barracuda set was designed by Niels Milan Pedersen, and this iconic figure has been faithfully recreated at a larger scale in this year’s LEGO House Limited Edition set. Niels
contributed to many beloved LEGO sets throughout his long and ongoing career. Of all his creations, his favorite remains the 6285 Black Seas Barracuda (1989).
Captain Redbeard is an intricate design featuring many fun details, including a hook for a hand, a wooden leg, shoulder epaulets, and a classic black pirate hat with a Jolly Roger emblem. All of these features are carefully reproduced in this new set. The model stands approximately 30 cm tall and includes 1,041 LEGO pieces. As a unique touch, the pirate wears a LEGO House wristband on his hook and holds a treasure map containing secret references to the designers behind the product!
