The original 1971 CBS issue was virtually a unanimous choice as one of the best Danish albums ever recorded; heavy blues and jazz influenced progressive rock, with strong melodies; the trio clearly had heard and absorbed the first albums by UK stalwarts Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Jethro Tull, and gave it their own spin. It also helped that they were based in England during this time period. Tick Tack Man comes from their 1970 pre-album single with original UK bass player Mac MacLeod whose buddy Donovan P. Leitch wrote their namesake song. Donovan did not like the heavy take of their version as he envisioned a softer, acoustic arrangement. Lend Me Your Wings was its B-side, afterwhich MacLeod departed the band and they relocated back to Denmark. Due to Donovan’s dissatisfaction with their version, the band never released a recording of it, though Mac MacLeod did record and release a verion of the song. Guitarist Claus Bohling later played with Secret Oyster. Highly recommended!
