Beskrivning
The PC-501 Programmable TV Game Console was a first-generation home video game console, part of the PC-50x family, popular in Europe during the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was not a true programmable console, but rather a simple interface that used game cartridges containing a General Instruments chip, with the ”programming” coming from selecting different games from buttons on the console itself. These consoles were inexpensive and included a variety of games like Pong-style games, racing games, and shooting gallery games.
Key features
* First-generation console: Part of the PC-50x family, a series of consoles sold under many different brand names in Europe.
* Not truly programmable: The ”programming” came from the selection of various game variations on a cartridge, which the console then played. The consoles themselves were simple interfaces for the games on the cartridges.
* Game selection: Each cartridge offered up to 10 games or variations, selected by 10 buttons on the console itself.
* Basic controls: The consoles featured two joysticks, each with one action button, and a start/reset button.
* Game variety: Cartridges included a range of simple games like Pong-style games, racing games, breakout-style games, and shooting gallery games.
* Basic graphics and sound: The consoles had very basic graphics and sound.
* Wide distribution: Although produced in Asia, they were sold in Europe under various brand names like Grandstand, Prinztronic, and Binatone.
