The Dark Red Seed is the musical outlet of Tosten Larson,guitarist for Seattle dark folk musician King Dude. A self-coinedmetaphor for the heart, The Dark Red Seed represents a directreference to life – and death – itself. The duo also includes KingDude engineer Shawn Flemming. Described as a study of death, StandsWith Death is a dark, dusty discourse on the departure and ultimatedissolution of life; a powerful expression of absolute loss shapedthrough Larson’s haunting, Cash-like delivery. Each of the album’sthree songs represents various aspects of death (the death ofAmerica, death of culture and death of reality through technologyand globalization), drawing on deep feelings and unansweredquestions to create living, breathing sound. Raised in Kalispell,Montana and currently based in Portland, Oregon, Tosten Larsonbegan his classical instruction as a young boy sitting at hisgrandmothers piano. Firmly rooted in the traditions of Americanmusic, Larson’s sound is equally shaped by art rock such as Swansand Six Organs of Admittance, Eastern masters like Kayan Kalhor andRavi Shankar, and hard rock staples such as Led Zeppelin and NeilYoung. Though he wears his influences on his sleeve, his musicattempts to defy category and carve it’s own path.
