Thoughtful simplicity of form was a paramount to Anna-Lisa Thomson (1905-1952), whose artistry is characterized by elemental shapes and nature-oriented motifs. It was a pioneering style changing the artistic direction of Upsala Ekeby, to which Thomson arrived during the mid 1930s.

Influenced by contemporary social models, Thomson was also a firm believer in democratizing the world of ceramics, hence purposefully working for making decorative ceramics more available for the common man.

Thomson’s innovative design is represented at the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm.
