Signing to Atlantic Records after The Dungeons Are Calling,Savatage seemed ready to break, and, for their third album Power OfThe Night, the band stayed away from the fantasy lyrics of theirpast to focus on pieces that dealt with modern problems, anger, andsex. This record was produced by the hot producer of the time, MaxNorman, who became better known as the producer of Megadeth´s 1992hit album Countdown To Extinction. This was bass player KeithCollins´s last album with the band. Jon and Criss were notcompletely happy with Keith´s playing and corrected some of hismistakes for the final version. Keith was to be replaced by JohnnyLee Middleton in 1986. I have many fond memories of recording thisalbum, says Jon Oliva. It was our major label debut and our firstwork outside of Florida.
