For sale is an Egyptian faience amulet of the goddess Nut as a sow.
7th to 4th centuries BC BC, late period.
Sows are associated with the sky goddess Nut, who was believed to give birth to the stars each night and devour them at dawn. The ancient Egyptians sometimes depicted her as a sow, based on the animal's behavior of eating her own piglets. However, Nut was considered a protective and motherly goddess and an amulet in the shape of a sow was probably intended to protect its wearer.
Comes from a British Gallery, Ex. Private British Collection. Collected before 1970. Afterwards A.A. Galerie, Great Britain, comes with provenance and declaration of authenticity.
Collection in Vienna or shipping within the EU possible.
