Venom guitarist Mantas released his first solo album calledWinds Of Change in 1988. It was a far cry from his black metalVenom sound and it was surprisingly melodic and keyboard filled.When he returned with his second album Zero Tolerance he shocked usagain. Zero Tolerance doesnt sound like his first solo album orlike his early Venom years, what we have here is a whole newMantas. Zero Tolerance sounds like a mix between Fear Factory andMinistry. Yes its a very industrial organization to its sound.Heavy bass with guitars following the drums in a rhythmic patternthat kind of sounds like machinery punching into your cranium.Unfortunately, very few guitar solos are present in the music. Thiswas definitely an album born out of anger and frustration plus anoverwhelming desire to create something ultra heavy and a littlebit different. Most of the songs sound very similar to each otherwith heavy duel guitar riffs that follow a very steady drummingpattern. Add the harsh vocals in the mix with either no chorus(Zero Tolerance) or a very simplified chorus (Rage, Drill, Kill It)and you have yourself a song. Even with downfalls as these theelement that makes this album work so damn well is the extreme, andI say extreme in the most extreme way possible, volcanic angerexplosions that spews through the lyrics and music like hot lava todevour the listener. This album is so in your face with power andanger and for that i am completely in awe of what Mantas pulledacross with Zero Tolerance. He did exactly what he wanted.
