A classic early-2000s Sony portable CD design from the final major generation of physical-media Walkman players.

It features G-Protection, Sony’s anti-skip system designed to maintain playback during movement and vibration.

The LCD displays track number, elapsed playback time, playback mode and remaining battery level.

The player also supports CD-R and CD-RW discs recorded in audio CD format, an important feature during the early 2000s when home-burned compilation CDs had become widespread.

History :

Sony introduced the original portable compact disc player in 1984 and initially marketed its portable CD line under the Discman name.

By the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sony increasingly consolidated its portable audio products under the Walkman identity, producing the generation represented by the D-EJ361.

Released in 2002, this model arrived at a particularly interesting point in portable audio history: commercially pressed CDs were still dominant, but inexpensive home CD burners had made CD-R and CD-RW compilations commonplace, while MP3 players were beginning to displace physical media.

The D-EJ361 therefore represents one of the mature forms of the portable CD player, combining long battery operation, CD-R/RW compatibility, digital playback modes and Sony’s G-Protection anti-skip system shortly before solid-state digital players became dominant.
