Studio album from march 1994. The band decamped to memphis got legendary producer tom dowd involved and atlantic records rhythm section to help craft their new songs . Its aged pretty well despite all of the problems involved making it (the group were in a pretty bad state drugs wise) which meant that dowd bowed out and george drakoulias finished the record . In the end this was no bad thing as he produced the black crowes and that suited the southern bar room boogie sound prevalent here. This album starts off like a train - by the time cry myself blind closes you are convinced give out is going to be a classic - only for it to get bogged down in the mess that is funky jam. Then, when they are back on the road to recovery, they have the balls to include exactly the same tune, renamed as struttin but without the george clinton vocal. But, even though these tracks detract from the overall album, give out is a tour-de-force. A great album from a band who cannot be accused of following the crowd.
