Departures is a 2008 Japanese drama film directed by Yojiro Takita. The film follows Daigo Kobayashi, a young man who returns to his hometown after his orchestra disbands. He unexpectedly finds work as a nokanshi—a traditional Japanese ritual mortician—and discovers a new path in life. The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards.
