Mateo Taxco Silver Ring

A distinctive vintage sterling silver ring signed “Mateo, Taxco” and marked “Mexico 925” with an eagle hallmark as well. A small, finely detailed frog clings to the band, its sculptural body transforming the ring into a miniature creature full of character.

Taxco, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, holds an important place in the history of Mexican silver design. Its modern silversmithing revival gathered momentum around workshops such as William Spratling’s, established in 1931. Drawing on pre-Hispanic design and the skills of local craftspeople, these workshops helped shape a distinctive tradition of expressive silverwork.
