The Carpobrotus edulis (Hottentot fig) is a subtropical perennial native to South Africa. It thrives on coastal and inland slopes and is often used as groundcover, in hanging baskets on balconies, or as a hedge along paths. This plant is also known as sour fig, highway ice plant, or sea fig.
Although the Hottentot fig is considered an invasive species in many areas, it's easy to grow and maintain at home. It thrives as a groundcover, particularly in coastal or Mediterranean climates. This plant spreads quickly, forming dense mats of succulent foliage with pink or yellow flowers that bloom in late winter, spring, or early summer.
