Antique NK Monogram Pocket Watch – Manual-Winding Mechanical Watch – 24-Hour Dial – Early 20th Century – Working with Jump-Start Required

An interesting antique open-face pocket watch dating from the early 20th century, featuring a distinctive central “NK” monogram, traditional Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds and an unusual outer 13–24 hour scale.

This vintage mechanical pocket watch has a strong period appearance, with a cream-coloured dial, large stylised black Arabic numerals and a clearly visible 24-hour military-time scale around the outer edge. The subsidiary seconds dial is positioned at 6 o’clock, while the central hands retain the elegant proportions associated with early European and Swiss-style pocket watches.

The dial also carries the marking “IMPORT” near the lower edge. Together with the NK monogram, this gives the watch an unusual and highly individual appearance. The exact manufacturer has not been conclusively identified, so the NK marking should be regarded as a monogram, retailer mark, importer mark or private-label signature rather than a confirmed manufacturer attribution.

The case shows substantial age-related patina, surface wear, scratches, oxidation and general signs of use. The dial also displays visible discoloration, spotting, marks and wear consistent with a watch of this age. These imperfections have been left in their original condition and contribute to the authentic antique character of the piece. Please inspect all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

Mechanically, the watch is capable of running, but it does not start immediately under normal handling. It requires a relatively firm or rough shake to jump-start the movement, after which the mechanism begins to operate. Because of this, the watch should not be considered fully serviced or mechanically reliable. It is sold as a working antique watch with a mechanical fault or weakness that may require cleaning, adjustment, lubrication or professional watchmaker attention.

The fact that the movement starts after a firm shake indicates that the mechanism is still capable of operation, but no guarantee is given regarding accuracy, power reserve, consistent running, long-term reliability or normal daily use. A service is strongly recommended if the buyer intends to use the watch regularly.

This makes the watch particularly suitable for collectors of antique pocket watches, vintage mechanical watches, early 20th-century timepieces, military-style 24-hour dial watches, private-label watches, Swiss pocket watches, European pocket watches, mechanical restoration projects and unusual horological collectibles.

The highly visible 13–24 hour scale is an especially attractive feature. Antique pocket watches with 24-hour or military-time dials are sought after by collectors because they differ visually from the more common standard 12-hour pocket watch format. Combined with the central NK monogram, subsidiary seconds and aged cream dial, this example has considerably more character than a typical unsigned pocket watch.

The watch also offers strong decorative appeal for collectors of historical timepieces, vintage horology, mechanical watches, gentleman’s pocket watches, traditional manual-winding watches, railroad-style pocket watches, military-inspired pocket watches and antique European watches.

Condition should be regarded as fair and fully consistent with age. The watch has not been represented as restored or recently serviced. Visible signs of use include scratches, patina, discoloration, spotting, wear to the dial, wear to the case and general cosmetic ageing.

Mechanical condition:
The watch does run, but it requires a relatively firm shake to jump-start the movement. Once started, the movement operates, although continued operation and timekeeping accuracy cannot be guaranteed. The watch should therefore be considered a mechanically imperfect but functioning antique timepiece. Professional servicing is recommended.
