50s American Worker Jacket

First introduced around 1941, the U.S.N. DECK JACKET was part of a specialized uniform officially known as Jacket, Special Winter Clothing. Though its purpose was broadly defined in regulations, it soon found a niche role aboard ships. This earned it the modern nickname, the Deck Zip Jacket, used by collectors and historians. Similar to the Bomber jacket but not reversible.

What sets this jacket apart historically is its transitional role. It laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the N-1 Deck Jacket. Its successor, often referred to as the Deck Hook Jacket, replaced the zipper with a hook-front closure. This design change is a key detail that helps differentiate the two.

The U.S.N. DECK JACKET is constructed with a durable heavy cloth exterior and fully lined with matching wool melton.
This one has a unique satin inner lining. probably because it’s not commissioned by the USN.
It features wool ribbing for added insulation, a 1940s-style bell-shaped silver front zipper with cotton tape, a concealed zip-front closure, and two side pockets.
