Volume 1 startswith two album tracks then we have 10-tracks from the Rock In Rioshow back in 1991 spread on volume 1 and 2 and then volume 2 endswith 2 tracks performed at the Farm Aid Show in Indianapolis on the7th of April 1990. The tour for the Use Your Illusions albumsstarted back in February of 1991 when the band made two appearancesat the Rock In Rio II festival in Brazil. These two shows was thelive debut for the bands two new members, drummer Matt Sorum andkeyboardist Dizzy Reed. The two new members were no new comers butneither had experienced a live crowd of this magnitude. DrummerSorum hadnt even rehearsed with singer Axl Rose before the show.Judas Priest was opening for us, Megadeth one night, Sorum toldGretsch Generations in 2020. The bill was crazy, but we wereheadliners. … Two nights sold out for Guns N’ Roses. Noting that hewas freaking out before the show, he continued, I was, like, ‘Hey,does anybody know what the set list is?’ … Slash goes, We don’t usea set list. And I’m like, ‘What?’ So I got no information aboutwhat’s gonna go down! Reed, in an interview with The Flash List,recalled Rock in Rio as a whirlwind. And the show was instantlyeye-opening for the keyboardist: Literally one day I was playingclubs in L.A. and then the next day, it seemed like, I was onstagewith Guns N’ Roses in front of 100,000 people, he said. The bandwas pretty much at the top of the world at that point. The first oftheir two Rock In Rio shows (20th and 23rd of February) marked thelive debut of several cuts, including Pretty Tied Up (The Perils ofRock n’ Roll Decadence), Double Talkin’ Jive, You Could Be Mine,Dead Horse and Estranged. Naturally, they also played the hits,including Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O’ Mine and closerParadise City. The band opened with Pretty Tied Up — a definitivestage moment for Sorum, whose simmering hi-hat launches the tune. Ijust remember looking out, and the crowd was already bouncing, thedrummer said. I was like, ‘I’m only playing the hi-hat! … It wasintense, and I was like, Fasten your seat belt, man. This shit’sgonna get crazy. And it did. But that was probably one of thehighlights — just the beginning of it. Despite being at their peakat that time, Guns N’ Roses were not responsible for the biggestfee at Rock In Rio 1991. They received R$1 million for the twoshows, while Prince and George Michael earned US$1.5 million –both. Another fun fact is that Guns N Roses made peculiar demandsto perform at the event. The group said that Poison would not beallowed to play at that edition of Rock In Rio .They also made arequest for the absence of pyrotechnics and the traditionalmotorcycle at the Judas Priest show. Pyrotechnics was cancelled butnot Halfords motorcycle. This album was recorded during that firstnight. Sorum and Reeds first show with the band and the first liveshow for the band in over a year and over 140,000 people inattendance.
