I had recently acquired a Sansui 661 and have been very pleased with the performance (including the fm/am tuner(s). Until I found this R-1050 and bought this from a reputable dealer/refurbisher in SoCal. And right out of the shipping carton, the sound was amazing precise without the edge, nice extension with tautness, and the highs ere simply gorgeous. The quality of the build, the smoothness it portrays my music is on a much grander scale than my previous ss integrated/amps. After a couple hours of enjoying having the sound envelope me, the the sun began to set... I noticed that at least two of the lamps were not working, and I also saw that the inside of the window was pretty dirty. I'm thinking I paid top dollar for this and it was supposed to have been completely gone through and be near perfect (as it was advertised). So, I can't recall when I have been so torn between keeping something or returning it. Dang, if the lights would have worked as described, I would have kept it. I had to send it back, I had paid for near perfection, and didn't get it. But now my dilemma: Where can I find a unit as clean and as pristine that I can be sure it has been completely gone through and checked to assure spec compliance is met or exceeds? My search has already begun and its like I'm looking for the cure, with the only antidote being the Luxman R-1050. I was using my 47 Laboratory 4733 as my pre/power amp connected to my Oppo BD103 and Sparkler Audio s301b diva speakers. I thought that was all I ever needed, then the 1050 arrived and blew me away. The Oppo is not a high-end player (I've and a few), this setup was little more than adequate and I could go for a long time with the 47 Labs unit. But, the Luxman made that 103 shine like it was no tomorrow. The R-1050 actually elevated the performance of the Oppo, incredible. So My short version, if you can find one of these, make a concerted effort to acquire it, you won't be disappointed. My search continues. (btw: I'm moving both my mint Sansui 661 and my 47 Labs Pre/Amp/DAC). Now my question: How does the Luxman RX-101/102 compare is sound signature and reliability? Any help why this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Cheers

Just got mine 2 weeks ago from local SA, such a beautiful sounding machine. Really love it. Only bad thing is 3 out of the 4 lights are out. I don’t think it is fuse. And from what I learned from others, it seems like a lot of work to do for amateur like me. You will be be disappointed.

This amp sounds better than any Marantz I have owned.
It puts my 2275 to shame.
Just fabulous.

The Luxman r-1050 is considered one of the best midpower receivers of the 1970's. This unit has a wonderful combination of sound and reliability that make it one of the best receivers of it's time.
