Stryper always had a metallic side to them, often exhibiting aheavier edge on some songs, after the mold of Judas Priest, Dio andIron Maiden. Nevertheless, following their 2005 reunion the band´smetallic character has become far more pronounced than their older,teased hair days, with their 2020 studio album Even The DevilBelieves being among the heaviest things to come out of theircreative arsenal. They haven´t fully abandoned the sonic aspects oftheir 80s heyday per say, as the hard rock fanfare and massive,almost musical theater-tinged vocal choirs are on frequent display,along with some of those bluesy rocking hooks that have also been acontinual staple of Dokken´s post-90s repertoire, but between arougher vocal display out of Michael and a crunchier bite to theguitar tone, there is little doubt as to this album´s metalcredentials. The two tracks on this shaped picture disc are takenfrom this 2020 album. The opening cruiser Blood From Above rages onwith about the same degree of intensity as something heard off ofDefenders Of The Faith, with Sweet often belting out someglass-shattering shrieks with enough gusto to rival Halford, and alead guitar interchange flashy enough to stand toe to toe with someof the classic Tipton vs. Downing battles. On the B-side we havethe title track from the album
