Despite starting out life as a one-man band original founder andmysterious multi-instrumentalist, Witchdoctor General, has welcomeda number of honorary members into his coven over the years. Theband’s seminal debut, Velvet Magic was one of the best albums of2017. Their 2022 album, In All Her Forms, sees this UK bandcontinuing the worshipping at the alter of the female. Each of thequarters, (Maiden, Mistress, Mother, Matriarch) of the albumcontains its own narrative that ties into the one advancing and theone preceding which then loops back to the beginning ad infinitumto create a story that is both self-contained and expansive. As youpress deeper into the lyrics and poetry there are mise en abymesand other narrative mysteries to be discovered. In All Her Forms isthe evolution of the traditional concept album into something muchmore multi-faceted and nouveau. There is music, poetry, thunderousdoomy riffs, haunting ballads, expressive piano instrumental andall illustrated with the beautiful album photography shot onlocation in the Holy Island by music and fashion photographer IanWest. Overall, In All Her forms, is an incredible followup toVelvet Magic and another step in the weird and wonderful world ofthis band. As far as doom metal goes i always thought once you’veheard one band, you’ve heard them all. Thats far from true withDevils Witches. This is a band full of suprises and the album isfull of low end, fuzzed out heaviness with soft parts in betweenthat makes the heavier sound even heavier. What’s more beautifulthan a woman? What’s heavier than Doom?
