Beschrijving

The Fable - Carving a Boat to Seek the Sword is a special stamp with the serial number T.59 issued by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China on March 10, 1981, to reflect China's rich literary heritage.

It is a set of five stamps. The first stamp depicts the original text of the Fable, while the second to fifth stamps depict the scene of a man from Chu crossing a river, his sword falling into the water, carving his boat, and diving into the water to search for it.

The fable "Carving a Boat to Seek the Sword" is from the "Lüshi Chunqiu" (Shen Da Lan, Cha Jin) and also appears in the "Huainanzi" (Shuo Lin Xun). It satirizes those who fail to understand the laws of development and change and adapt to the times. It teaches readers that objective things evolve and change, and that our subjective understanding should adapt to these changes, rather than viewing things in a static and isolated manner.
