It is a high quality capacitor of which the stator and rotor sections are each a single block of machined aluminium. The stator hangs on four glass insulators and the rotor is on ball-bearings. The frame is white painted cast aluminium. All this is done to achieve the high accuracy needed for its purpose which is to be the main variable capacitor in VFO
