"...Lethbridge tackles the mysteries revealed by dreams...His aim is to review the whole question of whether the world can be described in terms of scientific materialism, or whether something closer to the 'religious' view is correct. He believes that he has accidentally stumbled on a way of establishing that there are other realms of reality beyond this one, and that the 'soul' is probably immortal. The basis for this belief lies in the power of the pendulum, an instrument which is used in much the same way as a divining rod, but which can give far more information. Each earthly object seems to have at least two pendulum rates both before and apparently after death, and this leads Lethbridge to speculate on the nature of the worlds revealed, worlds in a different time dimension. The pendulum can 'answer questions', and Lethbridge concludes that it actually serves as some form of contact between a part of the mind that already knows these things, and our limtied everyday consciousness.
