This is an authentic Lapin Puukko (Lapland knife), a traditional Finnish–Sámi style utility knife featuring the classic double-sheath design, originally meant to hold two blades: one larger working knife and one smaller detail knife. On this example, the small auxiliary knife is missing, leaving only the main knife and original leather sheath.

The knife shows the expected handcraft characteristics of northern Finnish and Sámi puukko production: a hand-carved handle, likely birch or curly birch; a traditional hidden-tang construction; and a carbon-steel blade with patina and oxidation from age and use. The blade has a traditional Scandinavian grind and retains its original shape.

The leather sheath is hand-tooled with geometric motifs typical of Lapland regional craft. The original woven Sámi-style tassel accents are still partially present, and the sheath remains structurally intact with age-related wear, giving it the honest patina collectors expect from older puukko knives.

Lapin Puukkos were historically used by reindeer herders, hunters, and outdoorsmen across Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The double-sheath form is a well-known part of northern Sámi knife tradition, valued today both as a usable tool and as an example of regional craftsmanship.
