The 1950 Hedemora Loppet, a round of the Swedish Motorcycle Championship
held on on Saturday, 15 July 1950, at the Hedemora race track, Sweden,
was marred by a number of accidents, one of which had fatal
consequences.

During the international 350 cm3 class race, Swedish rider Birger Nord riding a Norton, did not notice a slower competitor who had mechanical trouble and was weaving all over the track, and collided with him. Due to the force of impact, Nord fell down and the other rider,
whose name was not released, escaped injury. Nord's bike continued
without a drive along the track, knocking down Britain's Oliver Bevan.

Oliver Bevan got away unharmed but Birger Nord received injuries and a fractured thighbone. He was taken to a nearby hospital in Avesta and later he was transferred to a Linköping clinic. Although it was a complicated fracture, he hoped to make a quick comeback and everybody expected him to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, serious
complications arose and Birger Nord died a week after the accident, on Saturday, 22 July 1950.
