Italianprogressive band Presence is a kind of mystery. Every time youthink this band from Naples have broken up the release a new album.So in 2008 (after 8 years) the band released their fifth album,Evil Rose. The group is a trio formed by Sophya Baccini (vocals),Sergio Casamassima (guitars and bass) and Enrico Iglio (keyboards).They also had Valerio Silenzi (drums) as a guest musician. Thealbum starts in the same similar path as Lacrimosa does. The Gothicelement is really evident as well in tracks like Cassandra. EvilRose is a story with more than 18 minutes long where, as in thealbum as a whole, Sophya Baccini vocals are the main thing. We canalso hear some Doom Metal on Subterreans otherwise its bombasticand operatic symphonic/heavy prog with a very dark atmosphere andchanging images between hard guitar runs and Classical-drenchedorgan themes, full of sudden breaks and orchestral flourishes.Thereis plenty of room for Baccini to come up with some extreme vocalexercises: operatic, distorted and more melodic vocal lines. IfEvil Rose marks your first attempt to meet Presence, it will bepropably a pretty good listening experience. This album heads tofans of the band and die-hard Heavy Prog lovers
