Stillsealed 2015 re-issue with new artwork

Forests OfWitchery is the debut album by Finnish symphonic black metal bandThy Serpent, released in 1996. This was the band’s firstcollaborative work; the previously released demos were createdsolely by Sami Tenetz, who currently is rhythm guitarist of theband. It has a more doom/gothic feel than later albums. ThisFinnish band made some waves in the mid-to-late 90s and seems tohave folded since, as they have not released anything since theDeath EP in 2000. Fans of more melodic black metal like Dissectionand earlier Dimmu Borgir will find this is nothing they have notalready heard. Sami Tenetz is a decent songwriter as the riffingthat fills this album is actually very good. It’s catchy and oftenmoody, with that distinctive Finnish sound that anyone who listensto metal is familiar with. The arrangements are a bit sprawly, andoverall this is pretty laid back. Thy Serpent are certainly notgoing to appeal to the harsh and fast school of Black Metal, butfor the more melodic style this is an excellent example. This isworth a listen. Not a classic in anyway but easily recommended tofans of the style.
