Neat Records was arguably the most instrumental label in therevival of heavy metal in the early 80s in the UK. The movement wasknown as the new wave of British heavy metal or NWOBHM for short. The label is most notable for the early releases of Newcastle bandVenom who are widely credited with the invention of black metal. While none of Neat Records acts really broke through to themainstream themselves, Venom, Raven, Blitzkrieg and Jaguarparticularly are acknowledged as major influences on a host ofmajor American thrash metal bands such as Metallica, Megadeth andAnthrax. Other notable acts to release music through Neat Recordsinclude White Spirit (notable as the then band of current IronMaiden guitarist Janick Gers) and Persian Risk (notable as theoriginal band of Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell). One of thelesser talked about releases was the one and only self titled albumfrom Slutt. This album is also mentioned as Model Youth in somediscography lists even though that title isnt mentioned anywhere onthe cover, label or spine. This has also been compared to Poisonand Aerosmith and i dont understand how. Im not even sure i want toput them into the glam genre. Sure the band wares make-up andhairspray, they have some glammy lyrics and song titles and theyseems to have borrowed the stage clothes from English bandWrathchild but the music on the other hand doesnt sound anythinglike Poison or Aerosmith. This is much heavier. Just listen to theopening track Angel and within seconds you can hear that itsproduced by Cronos of Venom. Woman Of The Nite sounds like Shout AtThe Devil era of Motley Crue and then we have the thrash metal likeT.K.O.. No info can be found on internet of the band or the bandmembers. The last track is recorded live in Newcaste and my guessis that this band played live a lot and had their loyal followerssomewhere in the northern part of England and thats what caughtNeats interest. The Neat And Tidy (history of Neat records) bookbarely mention the album and the Neat records history d/cdcompilation "The Flame Burns On: The Best Of Neat Records"(released by Castle Music/Sanctuary in 2002) only features a short19 seconds intro taken from the album, so its easy to say that Neatrecords and NWOBHM fans dont really want to talk about this album. However i cant agree that this would be the worst recording Neatrecords ever released. Jay C isnt a great singer and the overallalbum sounds quite sloppy but at least it has some balls comparedto some glam bands that they seems to be compared to. The albumdidn't sell and not many copies were distributed either so thealbum have become among the rarest of Neats releases and have beensold more than once for over 100 US dollars.
