Polish pressedmusic cassette. Clear cassette with printed paper label.
Poland is probablythe country that had the most record labels in the world that onlyreleased cassettes. But even though there were lots of labels themarket was still small as they only printed these for their ownmarket inside of Poland. And a label in one town maybe lacked thedistribution for another town and so on. A Warzaw or Krakow labelmight print more copies of a tape then labels from a smaller town.So even if there are thousands of releases you will notice how raresome are if you start to try to list the catalog number of oneparticular label. Some cassettes just rarely shows up. One of thebigger cassettes labels were Takt Music in Warsaw and another onewas MG Records, which was a sub-label of GM Records (both used thesame logo during the early 90s). Just like Takt they started in1990 and existed up until 1994 and during those 4 years theyreleased approx 3000 tapes. Under the name of GM Records theystarted a pressing plant in Poland after these cassette years wasover.
Dead Can Dance wasan eclectic musical entity that was formed in Melbourne Australiabut relocated to the UK. The band combines elements of Europeanfolk music — particularly music from the Middle Ages and theRenaissance — with ambient pop and worldbeat flourishes, touchingon everything from Gaelic folk and Gregorian chant to avant-gardepop, neo classical and darkwave. Their fifth album, Aion, wasreleased in 1990. Aion’s cover artwork is taken from Bosch, Aion’smedievalism was worn more openly than ever before, with songsadapted from centuries-old material. The beautiful, entrancingSaltarello, with lead performance by what sounds like an old windinstrument, comes from an Italian dance of the 14th century, whilethe mysterious moods of The Song of the Sibyl derive from16th-century Catalonia. The group’s command of not merely recordingpossibilities — witness the exquisite layering of vocals on theopening The Arrival and the Reunion — but of musical traditions, instruments, and more from around the world was arguably neverstronger. Gerrard’s vocals in particular have an even stronger, richer feeling than before, not merely able to command with itspower but softly calm and seduce. Perry, meanwhile, is no lesscompelling, his ever-strong, wonderful voice perfectly suited tohis choice of material. The standout track is Fortune PresentsGifts Not According to the Book with lyrics from a Spanish poet. The musical combination of softly plucked guitar and buried organdrone is striking enough, swathed in reverb, but when Perry stepsin with his vocals, matched by more sparkling keyboards, the resultis yet another high point for a band laden with them. Guestperformers once again assist throughout, including Perry’s brotherRobert on haunting, quite non-clichéd bagpipes for As the BellRings the Maypole Spins and singer David Navarro Sust, returningagain to contribute some fine backing work.
