Belgian sludgy hardcore punks VVovnds (pronounced Wounds)release their debut album. At first a Vvovnds full-length albumseems like a physical impossibility. Since erupting on the scene afew years ago, this four-piece seems to live and die within thatshort minute-and-a-bit, at most, their song-bombs last. The songsare fleshwounds, opening, exploding, closing, almost before yourealize what’s going on. And yet, here it is, a first album, andhere they are, for almost half an hour, swallowing nails spittingriffs, as they put it. The punk of Vvovnds is immediate, it hitshard and deep, but yet it still defies easy descriptions. Liketheir name, they leave things simple, their boots firmly planted inthe roots of the hardcore punk genre. But at the same time it’simpossible to find an easy reference point because for them xdoesn’t mark just one spot. On the contrary, they have a lot ofx’s, scratched in blood throughout the walls of genres likepowerviolence, sludge and who knows what else, as long as it’scovered in bile, blood and tears.
