When Rome was still a Republic (pre Julius Caesar/44BC) coins where issued by various wealthy nobility. This was struck in Rome in the name of L. CUPIENNIUS in 147 BC. This is the oldest coin in my collection
Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma
Reverse: The Dioscuri (The Dioscuri were regarded as helpers of mankind and held to be patrons of travellers and of sailors in particular) each holding spear, on horseback
