Stockholmbased Stabbs moniker apparently stands for Stranger Than AuntBerthas Breath. The group, formulated in 1995 and fronted byAustralian vocalist / guitarist Belinda Kordic, first came toattention with the inclusion of the track Tired on the ’ValkommenTill Festen soundtrack compilation. They would sign to the BritishMusic For Nations concern for their debut full length album As ItMay Be’ The music could be described as a cross between SaharaHotnights and The Vines or Nirvana/Hole mixed with Tomahawk onsteroids but the big different is the singer Belinda that soundslike the evil witch in Snow White. She growls and screams likeshe´s in major pain, but somehow it fits the music perfectly. Thissingle features one track from the debut album and two exclusivetracks. The Joke’s On Me from the album is so Hole-ish thatCourtney Love could have sung it. The two single only tracks feelscompletely different. Stabb shun mainstream influences for the sakeof sounding more like Sonic Youth, especially on third track How DoYou Do, parts of which could have been taken straight fromExperimental Jet Set. Stabb´s sound and Belindas voice reallydiffers from a lot of the music coming out today. Belindas richvoice escalates up the vocal scale but then it gets heavy, and weget something similar to death metal roaring. An interestingsingle.
