The labelsaid the following about this collection when it was released,“Raise your fists and get ready for this spectacular 2 cdcollection of the greatest rock anthems ever”. Of course this couldhave been a classic compilation but when you read the contents youunderstand that its nowhere near a compilation that can live up tothat hype. It sure includes a lot of cool artists such as Dio,Slash, Rick Derringer, Jimmy Page, Motörhead, Elton John, PatTravers, Quiet Riot, Santana, Mott The Hoople, Cinderella, Warrant,Sweet and White Lion. Several of the tracks is were hits but maybenot anthems and some of them arent in their original forms. Forexample you have Elton John covering Spirit In The Sky, a remixedversion of Sweet’s classic Ballroom Blitz, Fee Waybill, vocalist inThe Tubes, playing Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall, KevinMartin, frontman of Candlebox, covering Ramble On, Slash with RogerDaltrey covering Alice Cooper’s No More Mr. Nice Guy, Dee Snider ofTwisted Sister covering Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train, and SteveLukather from Toto performing Shine on You Crazy Diamond or whenformer Ratt vocalist Stephen Pearcy makes a cover version of RoundAnd Round by his own former band and so on. I dont mind hearing thelate and great Ronnie James Dio teaming up with the Swedish guitarhero Yngwie J Malmsteen where they perform a cover version of DreamOn. Thats a cool idea and would have been great on another album.As this cover version hardly is a classic original Rock Anthem. Sotake it for what it is. There are some classics on here, and maybesome you dont know that you find worth exploring and then we havethe odd covers by famous musicians that still are fun tohear.
