When you talk about Swedish death metal then you can name somany bands that had a major impact on the birth of Death metal.Travel a few miles to Finland and the story is completelydifferent. Funebre’s Cranial Torment, Abhorrence’s VulgarNecrolatry, Demigod’s Unholy Domain and Convulse’s Resuscitation OfEvilness. Those 4 is the very foundation, all committed to tape insmall local studios with clueless sound engineers and shoestringbudgets, the whole Finnish death-metal movement was built upon.Convulse only proper demo was recorded in between November 21st and23rd 1990 by Jani Vitanen, who would two decades later make a namefor himself by collaborating with Finland’s number one weirdosCircle on multiple albums. It just didn’t stand the test of timebut remains, to this day, one of the country best death metal demoever. Contrary to their peers, who often had a vision but alwaysthe means to fully turn it into a reality, the band was simply astep above the rest, the four tracks included there alreadyshowcasing some impressive musicianship and strong personality. Ifback in 1988 things got kickstarted in a more speed/thrash metalvein as S.D.S., two years later this quartet based in Nokia hadfully embrace the death metal aesthetics while putting their ownstamp on it with a peculiar sense of gloom. You can still feeltheir thrash roots yet the above-average solo work and bizarre andmorbid sense of melody were already quite unique. While the versionthat was included as bonus on the reissue of their debut album wasremastered, this one is the real thing, taken from the originalreels. Besides faithfully the original jacket of the tape version,this reissue will be available with jackets in two differentcolours. So here’s once again our chance to grab a piece of Finnishdeath metal history
