THE AUTHOR
Dr. Hobart M. Smith, an outstanding authority on herpetology, took his advance study at the University of Kansas, where he received his Ph.D. in 1936. He is now professor of comparative anatomy and herpetology at the University of Illinois. Author of more than 450 books and articles, Dr. Smith has served as an officer of the Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists and of the Herpeto- logists' League.
