Signing toAtlantic Records after The Dungeons Are Calling, Savatage seemedready to break, and, for their third album Power Of The Night, theband stayed away from the fantasy lyrics of their past to focus onpieces that dealt with modern problems, anger, and sex. This recordwas produced by the hot producer of the time, Max Norman, whobecame better known as the producer of Megadeth’s 1992 hit albumCountdown To Extinction. This was bass player Keith Collins’s lastalbum with the band. Jon and Criss were not completely happy withKeith’s playing and corrected some of his mistakes for the finalversion. Keith was to be replaced by Johnny Lee Middleton in 1986.I have many fond memories of recording this album, says Jon Oliva.It was our major label debut and our first work outside of Florida.Power of the Night was a very important album for us.
