Crank is anew project by Nifelheims founding member Tyrant. For Mean FilthRiders, Crank’s first mini-album, he put his bass aside and insteadsings and plays guitar on the six tracks Rebels Of The Night, InThe Wind, Thunder Road, Shooter, Mean Filth Riders and Hot Rock nRoll Band (the latter is a cover of a song by the obscure Finnishhard rock band Backsliders from the mid-80s). I wrote songs I likemyself and recorded them with people I like playing with, commentsTyrant. Crank is about doing exactly what we want, when we want,and how we want. We’re not a band for everyone, and we’re not meantto be. The uncompromising Nifelheim founder recorded the materialwith the help of some of his friends, namely Savage on guitar,Motokobra on bass, and a certain J. Rocker on drums. It won’t bethe least bit surprising that, according to Tyrant, Crank’smanifesto reads as follows: We play the hardest rock n roll thatwill take over your soul. The dirty biker image isn’t just forshow. Crank will rule the world, strike fear into your souls, andthe sound of their music will shake the heavens. So if you knowwhat’s good for you, stay out of Crank’s way, or you’re done for.Musically, Crank, of course, has nothing to do with Niefelheim’sblack metal roots. Mean Filth Riders mixes dirty biker rock withtraditional heavy metal and presents it with a no-bullshitattitude. This is highly authentic. There’s absolutely nothingrehearsed, prepared, or polished here. Imagine a red-hot mix ofNWOBHM greats like Tank, Mad Dog, and Saxon with proto-punk/metalcrossover pioneers The Blood, coupled with the raw minimalism ofthe Motörhead era of Larry Wallis, and you’ll have a rough idea of??what Crank is all about. Crank are incredibly refreshing in aworld where even many of the heaviest bands sit and polish everysingle note in the studio. So don’t forget to crank itup!
