Warlock iswithout question one of the most prominent bands in the history ofGerman heavy metal. Their musical journey began in the early 1980’sand came to a sudden stop in 1987, when the group’s singer, DoroPesch, was forced to continue her career under a new moniker.Warlock’s amazing album Hellbound captures the sheer essence ofheavy metal, delivering fast and melodic riffs, intense drummingand stunning vocal performances by one of the best female metalsingers of all times! Of all four Warlock albums its probably‘Hellbound’ that is the heaviest, most aggressive, and ultimatelythe most Judas Priest-like of the bunch. The lead work on here isat its most technically intricate, Doro’s vocals are at theirroughest and nastiest, and each song rips out a series of top classriffs that would make most glam outfits check their manhood.Although by today’s standards this listens as only a moderatelyheavy album, back in 1985 this was probably the heaviest it gotoutside of the thrash genre. The number of speed metal tracks onhere is at its highest for anything that Doro has been associated,taking up nearly half of the album. Although there is a solid caseto be made that Triumph Or Agony is the better album, those whowant a more aggressive side to this music should probably pick thisalbum up before they get that one. It may not be as well known asthat album, it didn’t sell as many copies, but it is definitely themore metal of the bunch.
