A semi-polished specimen of greenish fibrous Calcite locally known as 'Silkespat' (Silk Spar). My own find from Staksrode by Vejle Fjord in Denmark 2024. This is not a variant of Calcite, but a very special, rare growth form where fibrous Calcite grew from thin layers of ash in plastic clay from the Eocene Period. The line in the middle of the pieces marks the beginning of the growth. This specimen feels very heavy for Calcite, which is because the plastic clay is rich in heavy Barium - and as the Calcite grew in the clay, this became heavy too.

Extra info: Silk Spar is used for jewelry in Denmark when the part on one or both sides of the middle line is thick enough (not the case on this specimen). Grinding and polishing will show a characteristic silky luster caused by the fibrous crystals.
