Vhs number two of the three-part Magic Years documentary, titledLive Killers In The Making, is definitely the best of the bunch. Asits title says, the video traces the band’s development as one ofrock’s greatest live acts of all time, from Queen’s inaugural tourof Japan in 1974 up until their appearance as headliners at 1985’sRock in Rio festival (in front of 325,000 fans). The aforementionedearly tour of Japan resembles Beatlemania, as the band isconstantly being greeted and followed by well wishers, while theirconcerts are full of loud shrieks from the female fans. Alsoincluded is footage from a 1977 show at England’s Earl’s Court (agreat but brief medley of rock n roll standards is featured), and a1979 Parisian concert in which Freddie Mercury trashes the band’sequipment. You’ll also find an early performance of their anthem WeWill Rock You/We Are The Champions during the News Of The WorldTour in Houston, the discofied Staying Power recorded at anopen-air gig at Milton Keynes in 1982, and Radio Ga Ga fromAustralia in 1984. Featured throughout are interview clips withsuch famous peers as Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, andRingo Starr.
