Book of “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains” including print copy of this painting.
Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains is a masterpiece of Chinese literati painting, created by Huang Gongwang, one of the Four Masters of the Yuan Dynasty. Painted between 1348 and 1350, this handscroll depicts the tranquil scenery along the Fuchun River in Zhejiang Province, where the artist spent his later years.
Unlike the colorful style of earlier landscapes, Huang employs subtle ink washes and expressive brushstrokes to convey the spiritual essence of nature. The composition unfolds slowly across the scroll, revealing rolling hills, winding rivers, scattered cottages, and scholarly retreats. The work reflects the Daoist and Confucian ideals of harmony between man and nature.
