Bad Religion: Along The Way dvd is a vigorous account of theseminal punk band’s swing through Germany during its acclaimed,1989 Suffer Tour. Interspersing low-definition video footage frommultiple dates (often within the same song, thus explaining leadvocalist Greg Graffin’s many changes of shirts), Along The Wayshowcases the then-10-year-old, ever-changing group at a creativepeak and featuring at least three original members. Guitarist (andfounder of Epitaph Records) Brett Gurewitz leads the charge on anironically bright-eyed Suffer, and thrusts the playful, smart DoingTime into an impressive feedback maw. While stage-diving fans boparound an unflappable Graffin, the band rolls out some of its mostimpressive, if lyrically ponderous, material, including the epicLatch Key Kids and the pop-laced Along The Way. This dvd works inthree short breaks between songs for quickie interviews, includingone in which Graffin, on his Ph.D track at the time, comparesperforming to teaching. 75 sweaty minutes of candid video takes theviewer on a true punk rock van tour of small clubs and squats.
