Classic British comedy directed by Alexander MacKendrick. Sidney Stratton (Alec Guinness) is a labourer at a textile mill with a secret passion project: to create a material that will never wear out or become dirty. When he finally succeeds, he crafts a brilliant white suit out of the fabric and is celebrated as a pioneer. However, those in power soon realise that his creation could lead to the downfall of the entire textile industry and so they work to suppress his invention. The cast also includes Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker and Michael Gough.
