How to pack your item
To make sure your items arrive in good condition, it’s important to pack them properly. Good packaging helps both you as the seller and the buyer feel confident.
Use a strong outer packaging
Choose packaging of good quality, preferably double-walled cardboard for heavier or fragile items.
Fill empty spaces in the package
Use bubble wrap, foam, or paper to keep the item from moving or being crushed during transport.
Seal the package properly
Use strong tape, and a good tip is to use H-taping: one strip along the centre and two across the edges.
Label when necessary
If the item is fragile, label the package with stickers such as Fragile, This Way Up, or Keep Dry.
Packing tips for different types of items
- Wrap each piece in bubble wrap or paper so that nothing touches.
- Place porcelain items upright, especially plates and cups.
- Add padding at the bottom and fill empty spaces so nothing moves.
- Finish with a top layer before closing the package.
- Label the package with “Fragile” or “Handle with care”.
- Use the box-in-box method: place the original packaging inside a larger box with at least 5–6 cm of cushioning material around it.
- Wrap computers, tablets, and phones in bubble wrap and use a sturdy box.
- Batteries, especially lithium batteries, may be subject to special transport regulations. Check with your carrier for details.
- Protect your information: remove or encrypt sensitive data before shipping.
- Regular clothing can be sent in a plastic bag or simple box.
- Delicate garments (e.g. silk, lace) should be protected with bubble wrap and packed in a sturdy box.
- Shoes should always have an additional outer box, a shoebox alone is not enough.
- Light packages (under approx. 3 kg): use a durable bag or small box.
- Heavier packages: use an outer box and fill any empty spaces.
