Vintage 1960s Mitchell & Ness Varsity Jacket – Nether Providence Varsity Club 1966
A superb example of early Mitchell & Ness craftsmanship, this 1960s varsity jacket represents the era when American sporting goods were still made in small workshops with good quality wool, hand-cut patches, and reinforced construction built to last decades.
Mitchell & Ness, founded in 1904 in Philadelphia, originally outfitted local baseball, football, and scholastic teams long before they became globally known for their modern throwback jerseys. Even today, new Mitchell & Ness pieces often resell for 2000–3000 SEK, which makes true vintage originals from the 50s–60s sought after.
This piece comes from the Nether Providence Varsity Club, 1966, featuring the classic chenille patch and chain-stitched name embroidery. The grey wool body has that vintage texture you only find on older woven wool— full of patina that modern reproductions cannot imitate.
The real color is slightly darker in person than the photos show, giving it a more sophisticated, muted tone. It looks exactly like a genuine mid-century American varsity jacket should: structured, historic, and unmistakably old at first glance.
Fit: On a 180 cm / 73 kg frame, it fits perfectly with a true 50s–60s silhouette. Not oversized, not modern loose fit — instead a clean, cropped back length and a balanced, authentic varsity shape.
There are multiple pinholes on the wool body and ribbing. They are visible, but as with most genuine varsity jackets of this age, they add to the authentic character of the garment rather than detract from it. Personally, I never minded them, and many collectors prefer this honest, worn-in look.
Mitchell & Ness is known worldwide for producing some of the finest wool baseball uniforms and varsity jackets in both the past and present. Owning an original 1960s piece is a rare opportunity. The wool, the patina, the lettering, the construction—everything comes together to create a jacket that feels like a true artifact rather than just clothing.
A fantastic addition for collectors of American sportswear, mid-century fashion, and vintage outerwear with real history and presence.
Note : Multiple pin holes present. Please avoid this if you would like a great condition jacket. (Personally, I don’t mind the holes on this jacket —to me they are not so noticeable.)
